Established in 1949 the Stroud Township Fire Department is an all volunteer organization providing fire protection & rescue services for the township of Stroud located in Monroe County Pennsylvania, as well as an extensive mutual aid agreement with neighboring communities such as the Boroughs of Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg and Delaware Water Gap in addition to the Townships of Pocono, Hamilton, Price and Smithfield. The Department's coverage area consists of approximately 34 square miles consisting of residential, commercial and light industrial areas that are ever growing. There are also scenic areas such as the Appalachian Trail. In 2000, Stroud Township's population was estimated at 18,000 with an average of 300 fire calls per year. In 2007, Stroud Township is now estimated at 26,000 with an average of 500 fire calls per year, and climbing. With new residential developments being built as well as new retail stores such as Best Buy, Longhorn Steakhouse, Red Robin's & Chili's, the need for fire protection is becoming more and more essential every day. The Stroud Township Fire Departments compliment under the direction of Fire Chief David Smalley and consists of 13 pieces of apparatus running out of four stations located throughout the township with a membership of approximately 40 active Firefighters. The Department strives to keep the most modern equipment with two 2000 Pierce Quantum attack Engines as well as a new 2007 KME Engine. Our Firefighters also strive for excellence in keeping up to date with the most current training available. Last year, over 400 hours of training were logged with such classes as water rescue, ropes, vehicle rescue, structural collapse, and Hazmat Decontamination. The Stroud Township Fire Department offers services in addition to fire and rescue such as fire prevention, home inspections to all residents in our district, fire safety classes to local businesses and agencies, free smoke detectors as part of Operation Save A Life, sponsored by channel 16 and a Kids mobile smokehouse which teaches children fire basics such as there are two ways out in case of a fire. The Stroud Township Fire Department strives for both professionalism and excellence and is considered one of the finest departments in Northeastern PA. But once again, we are an ALL Volunteer Department who relies on our Community for support.
